About Condon Barr
In 1979, after the death of his partner, Jim Barr sold the firm to Lyndon Hubert and Don Swain. The new owners having a strong background in the food service portion of the industry, changed the name to Condon Barr Food Equipment Ltd. to retain the Condon Barr reputation and also indicate that all types of food preparation equipment were represented by the firm. The company grew from a volume of $900,000 in 1979 to $3,000,000 in 1982. With this increase in volume came a move from the companies original Jasper Avenue location of 5,000 square feet on two levels to 21,000 square foot location in West Edmonton. In 1983 the company seized the opportunity to affiliate with Julien Enterprises Inc. of Quebec City. This association opened the door to the large institutional market in Western Canada with the bonding and finances to tender projects of any size. In December, 1996 a group of Edmonton based employees purchased the majority of Julien stock, thereby returning control of the company back to Alberta. Julien’s remaining 10% interest was purchased by the Employee Group in 2004. "Providing a clear focus on efficient operations in the Western Canadian Marketplace" In 2002 Condon Barr purchased Valley Centre Food Equipment Ltd. of Abbotsford, B.C. This move has given the firm access to the large B.C. lower mainland market. In 2005 the organization was named the Canadian Dealer of the Year by the Manufacturers rep. organization MAFSI. The firm presently has 36 full time employees and average annual sales of between 12 to 14 million dollars per year. Condon Barr Food Equipment Ltd. focuses on the sales and service of new and used equipment, reconditioned equipment, furniture, kitchen consulting, project management, design services and a full line of smallwares.
